The San Isidro de Heredia region dates back to pre-Columbian times, when it was occupied by the indigenous Costa Rican town Huetar. This group left behind pottery and a stone idol, which is a unique artifact that represents the region's past. San Isidro de Heredia is also home to one of the most important archaeological discoveries in a local church in the Central Volcanic Mountain Range. The most important feature of the church is a large ceremonial table carved in stone, which was used in large agricultural festivals, and represents a myth of the environment.
