Santa Barbara is located around four kilometers northeast of the city of Alajuela and 10km northwest of the city of Heredia. Many of the inhabitants live from agriculture, including coffee plantations and herb farms. There are also several Spanish academies in the area. Life here is quiet, since most tourists come to visit the most populated cities, such as the capital of San Jose. However, if you are looking for a relaxing way to enjoy all that Costa Rica has to offer, Santa Barbara will not disappoint you.
At Santa Barbara, you can experience the natural beauty of the countryside. From Santa Barbara, you can take romantic horseback riding through the surrounding hills, go hiking along trails in the area, and enjoy the beautiful waterfalls that can be found in the nearby jungles. If you feel adventurous, you can take a day trip to the Braulio Carrillo National Park, home of the powerful Barva Volcano.
