León Cortés canton, also known as León Cortés Castro, is the 20th canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. It borders to the east with the cantons of Tarrazú and Dota, to the north with Desamparados, to the south with Tarrazú, and to the west with Aserrí. It was founded on March 29, 1962. Its capital is the city of San Pablo de León Cortés.
Located in one of the coffee areas par excellence in the country, León Cortés is one of the cantons with the highest agricultural production of Costa Rican coffee for export and national consumption, which stands out for its quality. There is also the presence of industrial activities related to this crop. In addition, León Cortés is part of what is known as the Route of the Saints, an area of tourist importance given the good weather, the presence of rivers, waterfalls, valleys, mountains, beautiful landscapes and rural tourism related to coffee cultivation .
