Montes de Oca. City of central Costa Rica, in the province of San José, known as the Cradle of Higher Education. Its main economic line is the cultivation of coffee, the textile and soaps industry. Founded on August 2, 1915.In the pre-Columbian era the territory that currently corresponds to the canton of Montes de Oca, was inhabited by indigenous people from the Hurtar Kingdom of the West, which in the beginning of The Colony were the domain of Cacique Garabito. By 1700, what is known today as San Pedro was Santiago de la Granadilla which later takes the name of La Villa de San Pedro de Mojón, whose denomination came from the geographical marker that indicated the boundary between this district and that of San José, a landmark known as El Mojón de la Legua de Curridabat.
Montes the Oca is known for it's high level of commercial develpment, there are a lot of universities and higher education centers. It's also very popular for it's night life, since there are a lot of vibrant bars and restaurants.
