What You Can Expect
You will be picked up from major hotels in the San Jos? area at around 6:00-7:00 am. From there you will be heading to Rio Danta Restaurant in?Gu?piles for a delicious Costa Rican style breakfast at approximately 8:00 am. Continue to the dock at either La Pavona?or Ca?o Blanco (depending on the weather), where you will arrive at approximately 11:00 am to board your Mawamba boat after you have had a?chance for restroom use. The boat ride will take approximately one hour depending on the river’s water level. You will arrive at the Lodge at around 12:15 – 1:00 pm. Check into your room and?meet your group and tour guide at the Restaurant for a buffet lunch (lunch available from 12:30 ? 2:00 pm). In the afternoon, visit Tortuguero Town with your guide and group and learn more about the local’s way of life. On your way back to the Lodge you will walk on the beach trails. If you would rather take the boat back, that can be arranged as well. Round off this day with buffet dinner?served from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
After breakfast (available from 7:30 – 9:00 am) the following morning, explore the lodge’s private gardens at around 9:30 am. Observe their butterfly farms, the frog garden, the river turtles area, and their bio-digester. Enjoy a rich buffet lunch at the restaurant from 12:30 – 2:00 pm to start your boat tour in the canals with regained strength afterward. Witness the biodiversity of this remote area, but be sure to take a rain jacket just in case it will rain! Return to the lodge at approximately 4:15 pm. You will have some free time before a delicious dinner will be served at 7:30 pm.
Have your last breakfast at Mawamba Lodge at 7:30 am. You will departure at 9:00 am, so please make sure to check out at around 8:30 am. When you arrive in Pavona at around 11:00 am you will have another chance to use the restrooms before boarding the bus back to Rio Danta Restaurant, where you will have lunch at around 1:00 pm. You will arrive between 3:30 – 4:30 pm in San Jos? depending on the traffic.

As there is?limited space in the bus and boats for luggage, please pack lightly for a maximum luggage of 25 lb per person. The entrance fee to Tortuguero National Park is not included in the package (adults: $15, children 6-11 years old: $5).?Alcoholic beverages, sodas, cocktails/smoothies or bottled water are not included in the package price.
During turtle nesting season, dinner time changes to 6:45 p.m., so our visitors can join the available tour.
