In his travels, Zipy had an opportunity to visit the Selina hostel that opened in La Fortuna in 2017 and won the Guest Review Award the same year. If you are planning on visiting Costa Rica and want to meet people and have fun, Selina La Fortuna is the place to stay. Zipy visited the hostel and was very impressed. Rodney, the sales manager, and his staff welcomed him with open arms, took pictures, and then went on a tour of the facility.
The entrance is bright and inviting with couches, a concierge desk, and souvenir shop with items from local artists. On the wall near the check-in desk is an activity board full of events offered for the week with the daily schedules. They update the board weekly.
Zipy wandered down the walkway, rode a rental scooter, then noticed a lovely TV room with cushions on the floor next to a library. What a wonderful place to relax and reflect! Next he stopped through a large, fully equipped, open kitchen for the guests to share.
Rodney explained that the facility has the capacity to sleep 178 people. Guests can choose from a single or Micro room, teepee by the campfire, or a dorm room with four, six or ten beds. They also have the option of staying in one of the seven deluxe rooms. All of the rooms are neat, bright and each has funky designs created by local artists. The deluxe rooms even have a record player and retro furniture. All of the rooms, with the exception of the Micro rooms and the Teepees, have private baths. The 11 Teepees are interesting, unique, and laid out in a semicircle. This gives you the feel of a true camping experience with an open fire pit to complete the circle.
Rodney explained that they have a nightly bonfire to welcome the new guests. What a great idea! The hostel has a wonderful outside area, full of chairs and hammocks where you can relax after a hard day of activities. Selina La Fortuna offers a variety of tours, sport activities, yoga classes, and many fun and exciting activities offered throughout the day and into the night. You can also relax by either of the two pools, enjoy drinks from the bar, or savor the delightful meals offered at the restaurant.
As Zipy soaked in the views and a sipped on a delicious, fresh, watermelon juice, he was quite impressed with the flowering plants all over the property and the murals on the walls adding rich Costa Rican flavor and a relaxing and inviting atmosphere. Zipy even met Negra, a black lab mix who had adopted Selina, lives on the property, welcomes guests, and “protects them” from the wildlife living in the creek nearby.
Zipy would like to thank Rodney for a wonderful tour of the facility and his recommendations of activities he can participate in to have a full La Fortuna experience next time he comes to the area.
