Costa Rica has the highest educational standards in Central America. It has a two-tier educational system – public and private. Public education is free, however, there is a small cost for uniforms and supplies.
There are three levels of education in Costa Rica.
1 – Pre-kindergarten to grade 6;
2 – College grades 7 to 12, ( plus 13 University and Trans Year)
3 – University. University is free for all Costa Ricans if they are of legal age and vote and the head of the household pays for Caja – health insurance. Costa Ricans are able to attend University until the age of 55 for free.
The school year, in Costa Rica, begins in February and runs until November.
