In the pre-Columbian the territory that currently corresponds to the canton of Goicoechea, was inhabited by natives of the Huetar Kingdom of the West, which at the beginning of the conquest were domains of the Indian Chief Garavito.
The first people who settled in the canton settled in what is now Calle Blancos, the first street or neighborhood road that had the place. From this place the population continued to extend eastward, continuing the paths that were made, giving rise to what later constituted the center of the canton.
The most visited places are the mountainous areas north of the canton in Rancho Redondo, Mata de Plátano and Ipís, which are in the slopes of the Irazú Volcano,The Church of Guadalupe,The Church of San Francisco, made in brick and declared as National Historical Heritage,Novacentro Shopping Center,El Dorado Mall,Guadalupe Shopping Center and El Pueblo Shopping Center where you can find shops and bars.
